Ios

Ios island is located between Naxos, Sikinos and Santorini in the Aegean Sea, in Greece. The island's distance from Piraeus port is 111 nautical miles and from Syros port is 55 nautical miles. The port of Ios is in Yialos.

Chora, the capital of the island, is characterized by the authentic island architecture, with white houses with beautiful bougainvillea that thrive in courtyards, cobbled streets, small churches and the wonderful view to the endless blue of Aegean sea.

The island of Ios has to present a rich cultural history and folklore, with many monuments and settlements testify to the remarkable growth both in antiquity and in modern course. At the same time, remarkable customs have their roots deep in time and maintain the tradition of the place.

The main attractions of the island is the Archaeological museum in Chora, the church of Panagia Gremniotisa in Chora, the Paleokastro Byzantine castle is located on the road to Psathi, The Prehistoric settlement of Skarkos on the hill of Skarkos, the theatre ‘Odysseus Elytis’ is located in the area Tsoukalaria, windmills spotted in Aniksi square in Chora and the Greek poet Homer’s tomb is located to the area Plakoto.
